Ryley Towler has made it quite clear that he wants to continue at Pompey despite a lack of football this season.
And the defender stated that he is excited to be a part of the Blues’ Championship journey at Fratton Park, following a final-day trip to Lincoln City.
Towler shined as he returned to the lineup at Sincil Bank, earning man-of-the-match honours in the 2-0 victory.
The 21-year-old’s playing time has been severely limited this season, with Conor Shaughnessy emerging as one of the season’s standout performers.
That means Towler has only made three starts: the opening-day draw against Bristol Rovers, the January win at Fleetwood, and the weekend victory against the Imps.
The former Bristol City man is understanding of his predicament, given his team’s defensive strength and his lack of experience in comparison to Pompey’s other central defenders.
Towler is also enjoying life at Fratton Park and being a part of a unique group, which, according to John Mousinho, has seen all of its members contribute to this season’s success.
The fan favourite plans to return in preseason to compete for a spot in the second tier next season.
Towler stated, ‘It’s an amazing feeling to be a Championship player.
‘I want to travel abroad for the summer and stay fit before returning. I want to enjoy the summer, but then the pre-season begins, and we’re back at it.
‘I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I want to be involved here. I don’t want to go; I enjoy it here.
‘It’s an excellent football club. We’ve seen that in the previous ten days, and really throughout the season. So, of course, I do not want to go anyplace. I adore it here.
‘I’ve settled in well, and it’s a great bunch of people who are all really close. I haven’t seen that at many clubs, but it explains a lot about why we’ve performed so well this season. So, no, I do not want to go anyplace!
