Josh Dacres-Cogley of the Bolton Wanderers is a target for Portsmouth, according to a report by journalist Alan Nixon on Pathreon.
Bolton Wanderers lost in the play-offs for the second consecutive season, and Portsmouth, who won League One, are moving up to the Championship.
For the majority of the 2023–2024 campaign, Pompey remained in first place, leading the Trotters; however, Derby County eventually overtook them to take second place. In the play-off final, Oxford United overcame Ian Evatt’s team.
Now that second-tier football is approaching, the Fratton Park team is eager to sign one of Evatt’s eager guys.
Reporter Alan Nixon stated on his Patreon that Josh Dacres-Cogley, a wing-back for the Bolton Wanderers, is a target for Portsmouth. Having only joined the north west team in the summer, the 28-year-old could be given an opportunity in the Championship after posting three goals and six assists in 55 games.
However, Evatt and associates might want for a payment of about £500,000, which Pompey is currently unwilling to pay.
Require right-backs
Portsmouth wants to strengthen all across the field this summer, but it has been clear from the start that John Mousinho will need to add to his right-back position through transfers.
The decision to not extend Joe Rafferty’s contract allowed him to sign with Rotherham United. Zak Swanson is now formally a free agent as his 12-month option was not exercised.
Pompey was left without a senior right-back as a result, but they have subsequently added Jordan Williams. It is unclear whether he will play center defense, as he did for Barnsley last season, or on the right side.
This implies that Mousinho may still be considering two right-backs, in which case Dacres-Cogley’s arrival would be essential.
£500,000 – is that too much?
Dacres-Cogley has now demonstrated his abilities in League One and League Two competitions. He would be a tremendous addition at Fratton Park because he is a fantastic attacking presence on the right side.
Nevertheless, Portsmouth is making sure their money is being spent wisely despite their championship position. They may not be too keen to spend half a million dollars for a 28-year-old right-back as a result.
Dacres-Cogley might be a good addition at a lesser cost. However, the club might find better use for those money somewhere else.
Bolton Wanderers will hope to hold onto their right-sided ace for the upcoming campaign, as he has the potential to be a key player once more. How Pompey’s interest materializes as they try to reinforce the ranks for Championship football, however, remains to be seen.
