Premier League announce official Newcastle United & Manchester City decision

The Premier League has announced the match officials for this afternoon’s clash between Newcastle United and Manchester City.

Newcastle will welcome the Citizens to St James’ Park on Saturday, with a 12:30pm kick-off, aiming to recover from their first loss of the season against Fulham last weekend.

Jarred Gillett will serve as the referee, with Darren Cann and Akil Howson as assistant referees. Stuart Attwell and Timothy Wood will oversee VAR, while Robert Jones takes the role of fourth official.

Australian referee Jarred Gillett will oversee the Newcastle United vs Manchester City match.This will be the first Premier League game involving Newcastle that Gillett has officiated since their 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the final day of the 2022-23 season.

Gillett took charge of three Newcastle games last season, all in cup competitions. While he avoided any major controversies during the Magpies’ FA Cup wins against Fulham and Blackburn Rovers, his Carabao Cup performance was more contentious. In the quarter-final against Chelsea in December, Gillett faced criticism for not issuing a straight red card to Moises Caicedo after a harsh tackle on Anthony Gordon early in the match.
