After waiting several months, Sunderland finally have a manager, but based on the most recent sources, Regis Le Bris may have to assemble a team without Anthony Patterson and Jack Clarke.
Le Bris was an unconventional choice for the Black Cats. Four months after Michael Beale was dismissed of his duties, the Wearside club had gone through a rather long list of potential replacements for him in the dugout at Stadium of Light. Will Still, former Hull City and Derby County manager Liam Rosenior, Queens Park Rangers manager Marti Cifuentes, and head coach of St Mirren Stephen Robinson were among the people allegedly on Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ list, however none of them accepted the position.
The 48-year-old, who was appointed on Saturday afternoon, has never managed a team outside of Lorient in Ligue 1, where he led the French team to just a 30% win percentage. This is his first season managing in English football. Even said, Lorient occasionally produced some thrilling football, and it will be interesting to watch how the new manager can apply his methods at Sunderland.
Regretfully, Le Bris might have to play without two important players in the upcoming campaign since they are expected to depart the team during the summer. According to journalist Alan Nixon of the Sunderland Echo, Southampton, a freshly promoted Premier League team, is attempting to sign goalkeeper Patterson and top scorer Clarke from the previous campaign.
Over the past few months, it has been clear that Sunderland is willing to pay £20 million for Clarke, while Nixon has stated that the board is seeking to pay up to £20 million for Patterson. Nevertheless, the Saints are now far short of this valuation for either player.
