Michael Stewart has continued to voice his concerns over the officiating in the Sunday’s Glasgow Derby clash that ended in a 3-3 draw.
The encounter, which featured several contentious calls, raised concerns about the effectiveness and accuracy of VAR in Scottish football.
Rangers’ Fabio Silva was first given a yellow card by referee John Beaton for what was deemed a dive.
However, following the VAR intervention led by Nick Walsh, Beaton was sent to the monitor and awarded Rangers a penalty, reversing his first decision.
Stewart has expressed his disappointment with the decision, calling it ’embarrassing’ and ‘disgraceful’.
He also questioned whether the VAR official missed Johnston’s initial touch on the ball, which may have had a big impact on the decision-making process. “I’m wondering if Nick Walsh didn’t witness the ball’s initial touch, which is why he never showed it. He would not be alone. “After the game, I had to show the touch to someone who was completely unaware,” Stewart posted on X.
Walsh’s failure to see this would be a huge mistake. He’s there to witness what the referee missed in real time, and he has access to replays from other perspectives.
Celtic have written to the SFA expressing their concerns regarding the footage given to John Beaton on the pitchside monitor.
