Pundit rubbishes suggestion that Spurs can sign Premier League star for just £40m

Despite some reports that Ivan Toney could be available for roughly £40 million, Alan Hutton feels Tottenham would have to spend substantially more to recruit the centre-forward this summer.

High-quality number Toney, one of the few attackers who guaranteed 20 goals in the Premier League, is expected to be highly sought-after during the summer transfer window.

In February, HITC reported that Spurs are preparing to compete with Arsenal, Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Chelsea for the 27-year-old, who is valued by Brentford at £50-60 million.

Alan Hutton expects Ivan Toney to cost more than £40m

Last week, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg stated that Toney, who has a year left on his contract at Gtech Community Stadium, can be signed for roughly £30-40 million.

According to the writer, the Bees told West Ham that fee when they inquired about the center-forward’s availability.

However, Hutton predicted that there would be a bidding battle for Toney this summer, with numerous teams willing to spend more than £40 million for his services.

When asked about Spurs’ pursuit of the England international, the analyst told Tottenham News: “If they can get him for £40 million, that would be fantastic.” But I don’t think that’s the amount; I believe it’ll be far higher. How do you progress from a £100 million player to a £40 million player? It doesn’t really work out.

“His value is simply what someone is willing to pay for him, and you know Tottenham can play hardball, especially with Daniel Levy and the funds.

“He has effectively managed the club since its inception. So, if you’re talking about Ivan Toney for £40 million, I believe that’s a terrific bargain, but I’m not going to pay that amount.”

One would have expected Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, and Manchester United to prioritise Toney this summer.

The fact that those clubs are not doing so shows that there is some truth to recent accusations that the striker is demanding astronomical wages.
