QPR Dealt Boost In Pursuit Of International Star
There may be a new custodian at Loftus Road come season-opening since a deal with first-choice custodian Asmir Begovic has not yet been struck.
Last summer, Begovic would replace Seny Dieng, who was leaving, with a one-year deal. He would captain the team on each of his 45 appearances in the Championship for Queens Park Rangers. The Bosnian, who is now 36, showed class by keeping 13 clean sheets in the second division to lead his team to safety.
The R’s might, however, search for a younger “keeper to start the season because the current one turned 37 during the summer break. Joe Walsh, 22, who played the season’s final game, is one of their players, although he may be too young to be the starting quarterback.
Because of this, the London team is probably going to need a custodian this summer and has already been strongly connected to a young player. That would be Stanley Nwabali of Nigeria and Chippa United. In March, Fabrizio Romano wrote on Twitter (X) that QPR and Al Ettifaq, a Saudi team, had expressed interest in the custodian. It is purported that these parties still have this interest.Nigerian custodian Stanley Nwabali has been contacted by a number of teams, including Queens Park Rangers in the UK and Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.
In the upcoming months, his South African team, Chippa United, will contemplate his next move.
In 26 DStv Premiership appearances, Nwabali, a player for Chippa United of South Africa, has maintained 11 clean sheets. His accomplishments on the international circuit, where he has already attracted a lot of attention, are arguably what have made him more famous.
Nwabali, 27, had a really amazing tournament even though his team lost the African Cup of Nations final 2-1 to Ivory Coast. He started all seven of Nigeria’s games in the competition. Nwabali saved two penalties in the semifinal penalty shootout against South Africa to send his team to the championship game. He also kept clean sheets in four of the games.
Since the DStv Premiership concluded on Sunday, the ‘keeper has rightfully earned admirers, including QPR, and it now appears quite likely that he will leave Chippa United. After the season’s last day, Nwabali spoke with FarPost and provided a significant clue about his future plans.
“Well, everyone would love to get out of a position because you have to grow in that position.”
Like everyone else in my situation, I want to develop farther. Since I have been giving my club my all this season, I am speaking of clubs that are higher up.
“All I want is another challenge somewhere else.”
The likelihood that the ‘keeper will depart this summer suggests that the R’s could be getting closer to signing him, even though nothing is official yet. But, they will have competition for the Nigerian from a variety of global sources.
Author’s Perspective
With Begovic’s future uncertain, the top place clearly has to be addressed during the transfer season. Joe Walsh is a player to keep an eye on in the future even though he doesn’t yet seem ready to be the starter.
Nwabali won a lot of fans after his performance at the AFCON. Even though he doesn’t exactly have a lot of high-level club experience, his international caps are very valuable. It would be a signing that carries some risk but also has the potential to be quite beneficial.
He will likely be entering his prime at the age of 27, and if he can adapt to the English environment, he may end up being QPR’s long-term number one.
