Rangers dump Celtic out of the Scottish Cup as semi-final ends with late drama

Treble-chasing Rangers booked their place in the Women’s Scottish Cup Final after a dramatic late win over holders Celtic.

The Glasgow giants locked horns for the fifth time this season in a blockbuster Old Firm showdown at Hampden – with the winner set to face either Spartans or Hearts in next month’s showpiece final. Jo Wilson’s side already have a trophy in the cabinet this season after seeing the Hoops off on their way to SWPL Cup glory.

But Celts went into today’s clash in better form, with Elena Sadiku overseeing a nine-game unbeaten run which sees them two point clear of Rangers in the title race. A decent crowd turned out at the national stadium for the Glasgow derby but would have been slightly overwhelmed by the goalless first-half, with chances few and far between.

Kirsty Howat then put the game beyond doubt by latching onto Kelly Clark’s loose header to chip the ball over Kelsey Daugherty and seal a 2-0 win. It was a deserved win for the Ibrox side as they got the better of their rivals for the second time in a semi-final this season to end Celtic’s stranglehold over the Scottish Cup.
