Rangers handed huge £6m boost as forward spotted at Training Centre ahead of Ibrox return

The extent to which injuries affected the Rangers team in the previous season is difficult to measure.

But it’s reasonable to argue that it was significant given the striking absence of major players with large salaries and in particular areas of the team.

The Rangers’ medical staff will be restructured, and Philippe Clement has promised to put the team through a rigorous preseason programme to get them ready for the demands of a full season.

A significant amount of churn is anticipated at Rangers in the upcoming weeks, so new players won’t have much time to establish themselves.

However, the revelation that a player worth £6 million is gradually regaining fitness following a terrible debut season at Ibrox gives supporters hope.

Update on Danilo’s major injury

Danilo, a Brazilian striker, was the standout acquisition made by Rangers during the summer transfer window.

Under Michael Beale, Rangers spent almost £21 million on nine new players, with Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, Jose Cifuentes, and former Feyenoord attacker Danilo fetching the highest salaries.

The shock of Alfredo Morelos’s departure was initially lessened by the rumoured £6 million deal to recruit Danilo, with the Brazilian expected to replace the Colombian in the starting lineup.

However, Danilo’s originally promising start to life at Rangers was severely hampered by injury.

Danilo, who scored twice in five games (one start) at the start of the Premiership season, broke his face while netting against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

A few weeks after returning to action wearing a mask, the striker scored goals against Hearts and Dundee before suffering a knee injury against the Jambos at Ibrox that terminated his season in early December.

As he has been for a few times already, Rangers boss Philippe Clement was not impressed with how the striker had been treated prior to the issue.

However, Danilo is getting closer to making a comeback following surgery, physical therapy, and several torturous months on the sidelines as fellow Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers took the brunt of the burden to score goals.

Danilo was seen back at the Rangers Training Centre with a ball at his feet for the first time in more than six months, however it is still uncertain if he will return in time for the season to begin.

Not only is Danilo expected to perform like a fresh recruit for Philippe Clement on the pitch, but he also comes back free of the burden of adjusting to a new nation.

Rangers will bolster their striker lineup.

Rangers can easily calculate the impact of losing the striker from the previous season, even though it’s difficult to predict how much of a boost his return will provide.

Rangers’ forward line desperately lacks a consistent, dependable finisher in key situations, hence the team needs someone to deliver a deadly finishing touch.

Danilo’s impact might be invaluable if he can recover his shooting form and lead the Rangers attack in the first few games of the season by scoring goals.

The Rangers are hoping to strengthen their assault this summer, and this news about Danilo coincides with that goal.

Although there have been rumours that Rangers wants to add two new forwards this month, the team is expected to demonstrate its strong conviction in Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane’s future.

Philippe Clement is not taking any chances for the upcoming season, as the Gers are in the process of obtaining a more permanent contract for Senegalese forward Abdallah Sima.

Rangers have a diversified group of forwards with everything to prove at Ibrox when you add Cyriel Dessers and the returning Danilo to the mix.

Personally, I think it’s fantastic to see the former star of Samba Strike back with the ball at his feet.

Danilo, welcome back!
