Rangers hero can’t shrug his Ibrox loyalties as he makes Celtic vs Aberdeen prediction with a twist

Kris Boyd is hoping that Aberdeen’s impressive winning streak will come to an end at Celtic Park next week, allowing his former club, Rangers, to catch up with the top two and create a three-way title race in the Premiership.

Under new manager Jimmy Thelin, Aberdeen has achieved a remarkable 13 consecutive victories ahead of their clash with Brendan Rodgers’ dominant Celtic side. Both teams are currently tied on 21 points going into the international break, having secured wins over Ross County and Hearts last weekend. However, something will have to give on October 19 when they put their unbeaten records on the line in Glasgow.

Rangers, sitting in third place, are five points behind and face a challenging trip to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock next. With Celtic favored to defend their title, Boyd wants to see Aberdeen stumble to help the Light Blues close the gap.

When asked if he hoped Aberdeen would extend their winning streak to 14 games at Parkhead, Boyd told Sky Sports: “No. Obviously, then my team would be further down the league! For Aberdeen, it’s great for Scottish football. We often talk about the big five: Celtic, Aberdeen, Rangers, Hibs, and Hearts, but the two from Edinburgh are struggling right now.

“Since Jimmy Thelin took over, we discussed Steven Naismith a few weeks ago regarding Hearts’ poor performances that have carried over from last season. In contrast, Aberdeen finished strongly under Peter Leven last year and returned with a positive outlook thanks to their new manager.

“They’ve definitely built on that. Their start this season has been excellent, and next weekend’s match at Celtic Park will be a tough one for Aberdeen. But when you compare where they were to where they are now, it’s a dramatic transformation.

“They’ll keep winning games. They defend well and have threats in attack. Kevin Nisbet’s call-up to the Scotland squad further highlights the form he’s shown since returning to Scotland. Right now, everything seems to be going well for Jimmy Thelin, and while I’d love to say that it will continue, I’d be lying!”
