Rangers hero dons retro kit for kickboxing session to show he’s fighting fit after brain surgery

Former Rangers striker Michael Mols admitted he was lucky to be alive following a brain tumour operation just six months ago – but he is clearly fighting fit again.

The Dutchman shared photos on his Instagram story taking part in martial arts training at a gym in the Netherlands and of course the striker was sporting a Light Blues kit, showing the club remains close to his heart. Mols spent five years at Ibrox as part of Dick Advocaat’s Dutch revolution but suffered a cruel knee injury during a Champions League clash against Bayern Munich in Germany which hampered him.

But much worse than than that cruciate issue came late last year when Mols was rushed to an Amsterdam hospital for an emergency MRI scan which revealed the full extent of the threat facing him. Lurking behind the retired striker’s left eye was a two-inch tumour, similar in size to a golf ball. He underwent an eight-hour operation to remove the growth and save his life but the latest images show he has made a full recovery.
