The 26-year-old has only made eight Scottish Premiership appearances since arriving in Glasgow in the summer, with his most recent outing coming off of the bench in the closing stages of the Old Firm derby draw with Celtic.
As quoted by Rangers on X (9 April) he said: “It has been a frustrating season with my injuries but I’ve stayed positive. I’ve been working hard in the gym to become more powerful.
“I’d say I am close to 100%, I just need to tick off a 90-minute match now I am feeling good. We are focused on winning every game that we can. We take it game by game.”
While Dowell has never been the first-choice attacking midfield option since he arrived at Rangers in the summer, his return has come at the ideal time for the Light Blues as they prepare for the run-in and the Premiership split.
Both Tom Lawrence and Todd Cantwell have impressed in the more advanced midfield role in recent weeks, but both players have struggled with injury at points throughout the season so the added strength in depth is a huge bonus.
Nobody expects Dowell to start every week, but he has skills that mean he is more than capable of changing a game from the substitutes bench, whether it be with a good run on the ball or a defence-splitting pass.
