Rangers land critical Ridvan Yilmaz injury update from Turkey boss amid mounting Ibrox fitness woes

The left-back limped off while on international duty after just 27 minutes in the defeat to Hungary.

Vincenzo Montella, the manager of the Turkish team, has provided a cautious update on the condition of Rangers’ player Ridvan Yilmaz, stating that he will stay with the team in order to have his injury evaluated.

The defender has recently become a crucial element of the Light Blues’ starting lineup as they strive for the Scottish Premiership title, taking up the position as first-choice left-back from Borna Barisic this season. His exceptional performance led to a last-minute invitation to join the team for the friendly matches against Hungary and Austria. He was given the opportunity to start the game against Scotland’s rivals in the Euro 2024.

Nevertheless, he was substituted after a mere 27 minutes, hobbling off while grasping his left thigh in the midst of his team’s 1-0 loss. It offers Rangers another injury issue when the league returns against Hibs – with a key top of the table encounter with Celtic likely to follow just a week later. Philippe Clement is already without Abdallah Sima, Oscar Cortes, Ryan Jack, Kieran Dowell and Danilo for the run-in.

And after the full-time whistle in Budapest, Montella refused to declare if Yilmaz would remain with the side going into Tuesday’s meeting with Austria. He said: “I will think about this topic.

“We need to analyse the physical condition of our football players. I also have a scheme in my mind for young people to gain experience in such matches. I shall make my judgements after doing a good evaluation.”
