Rangers and Celtic will both take a short break from the Scottish Premiership to get ready for this weekend’s Premier Sports Cup semifinal matches.
While Aberdeen head coach Jimmy Thelin wants “100%” from his club on Saturday, a key Rangers player has called for “results” from his colleagues.
Rangers “need results,” James Tavernier emphasises.
Rangers’ midweek loss to Aberdeen was disheartening; Light Blues skipper James Tavernier said he “understands” the fans’ frustration and urged his teammates to do better.
“We know as a team we have performance levels we can reach as we demonstrated in Europe, and it is important we are consistent as a team and reach these levels,” Tavernier told reporters.
We are continually talking and trying to get better. We expect more from one another. As players, it is our responsibility to produce outcomes. Poor results that you don’t want can lead to criticism.
As players, it is our responsibility to produce outcomes. As a team, we are in it together. Getting into the final this weekend is crucial, and keeping the trophy is what matters most.
We are putting in a lot of effort since we are aware of our areas for improvement in the league. We must go and accomplish our goals. You have to win at a team like Rangers, and that’s what we have to do.
We never want to lose points, so I completely understand the frustration. I am exerting every effort to put up a show in my capacity as captain. We must proceed to the pitch to conduct our conversation.
Before Celtic vs. Aberdeen, Jimmy Thelin speaks to the media.
In the Scottish League Cup semi-finals, Celtic will play Aberdeen at Hampden Park, and Dons manager Jimmy Thelin isn’t taking the match lightly.
Thelin stated during a press conference: “We must first do well on Saturday. We realise it’s a cup, but it’s a semi-final, and if you lose, you’re gone.
“You advance to the final if you win, but the main emphasis should be on performing well and giving it our all before we watch the outcome. However, everyone must have faith in their ability to succeed.
“Playing the game is not required else. We therefore firmly believe that we are aware that the game will be difficult. We must fully commit and have faith that we can succeed.
“Everyone wants to win something, but the best part is watching the players develop, how we foster a great sense of teamwork, and how we can work to increase our chances of winning.
“I want to see and create this togetherness and spirit that we can give us a chance to do this kind of thing, even though sometimes you can have a really good performance but miss with a touch or whatever.”
