Before today’s Scottish Cup semi-final, Celtic’s pre-match shenanigans did not sit well with Rangers head coach Jo Potter.
The women’s teams gathered at Hampden this afternoon to compete for a spot in the competition’s final, which takes place next month. The victor will play Hearts or Spartans.
However, due of the length of Celtic’s customary before huddle, kickoff was postponed even though both sides were prepared and eager to play.
The match was broadcast live by BBC Scotland, and they caught the moment when Potter appeared to be getting irritated with Elena Sadiku’s team for not following the referee’s instructions to terminate the huddle and continue playing.
Shaking her head, she was observed as Celtic forced Rangers to wait for the kickoff.
There were audible jeers coming from the national stadium’s Rangers crowd.
At the half, Jane Lewis made the following observation: “It’s safe to say that I believe there were some mind tricks involved. Rangers were positioned and prepared to play, but Celtic remained in huddle. Jo Potter was not laughing.
Moreover, Rachael Boyle and Shelley Kerr, two Beeb experts, shared Potter’s anger regarding the issue.
“Jo Potter is a winner right away,” ex-Scotland manager Kerr remarked. She was like way when she was a player, so in fairness, she will make an attempt at the fourth official in situations like that. Most managers would, particularly in a Scottish Cup semifinal.”
“They are trying to get their fans involved to get them behind the team,” Rachael Boyle continued. “I think I noticed Elena attempting to hype up the fans at the start of kick off as well. However, Rangers were ready for this game because they had a stronger start.”
But Potter got the last laugh, as her team won 2-0 in the sunny southside to get to the final.
Late in the game, goals by Chelsea Cornett and Kirsty Howat sealed the victory.
