Abdallah Sima’s Rangers career could be finished after Philippe Clement stated he will miss the next few weeks due to an injury.
This season, the Senegal international has scored 16 goals in all competitions, surpassing only Cyriel Dessers and captain James Tavernier. He recently returned from a two-month injury hiatus.
He scored against Celtic in a 3-3 draw earlier this month. The club is considering making his loan move from Brighton permanent if they can reach an agreement with the Premier League side.
Clement will have hoped to have the winger available for the season’s final games, with the Ibrox club pursuing Celtic in the title battle once more following a disappointing run of defeats that saw them lose top spot in the standings.
During the pre-game news conference, the manager revealed that Sima would be out for a “couple of weeks” due to injury.
The final game of the SPFL season is slated for Saturday, May 18th, barely three weeks away, while the Scottish Cup final versus Celtic is set for one week later, Saturday, May 25th.
In an ideal world, he would be fit to play in those games, but given how injuries have plagued Ibrox this season, there is no assurance of a return.
Brighton will not sell Abdallah Sima to Rangers for cheap.
That means the 22-year-old has likely played his final game of the season, and possibly his last in a Rangers jersey.
Brighton paid roughly £7 million to buy Sima from Slavia Prague in 2021, and while he is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Seagulls, they are unlikely to trade him for a low price.
Sima still has two years left on his deal at the Amex Stadium, and they will not be under any pressure to sell for a low price, leaving Rangers with a difficult option to make when it comes to spending a significant portion of their cash this summer.
If they decide to sign him permanently, other parts of the squad that require reinforcement may suffer as a result; nevertheless, not re-signing him means the squad will immediately regress.
It’s a tough question for those in authority to answer, but there’s a good probability Sima has played his last game for Rangers.
