Rangers defender John Souttar is expected to miss the match against Celtic due to a possible muscular injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar. The injury specialist argues that in order to compete in the cup final on May 25, he must return to full first-team training.
That does not appear to be the case, although this could change if Philippe Clement or the club announce that he is training normally. Brar, a doctor of physical therapy and a sports scientist, spoke exclusively with Ibrox News about his condition. “For Souttar, it sounds like it could be muscular because the manager stated that they don’t know yet, and that type of gray area is usually designated for muscular injuries.
“There appears to be no indication from the club regarding his return to first-team training. “That would indicate to him that he isn’t totally healthy yet, and his chances of playing in a cup final are slim as it stands.
That’s not to say he’s not making progress, but it’s unclear where he stands in terms of his recuperation.
Rangers need John Souttar for the final v Celtic
Connor Goldson has already been ruled out of the game, and Leon Balogun may possibly miss out, leaving the club short on defensive choices. They were already heavily exposed in the 3-3 draw against Hearts, where Leon King and Ben Davies started.
Souttar has been a mainstay in the Gers defence and their chances of winning increase with him in the starting eleven.
