Reaction: Tigers head coach Dan McKellar on Sale defeat

Dan McKellar, the head coach of the Leicester Tigers, responded to the team’s Gallagher Premiership round 17 loss to the Sale Sharks.

“I think the game pretty much sums up our season,” McKellar said.

“After a comprehensive season analysis, the team will improve.

As a result, I’ll be a better coach. The first year was always going to be difficult, but I now know the league, the club, and the people, so you can trust that our programme will be thoroughly reviewed.

The home team dominated the game on a frustrating night for the Tigers, who are now looking forward to playing Exeter at Mattioli Woods Welford Road in their season finale.

“The players’ dedication to the team is something I can’t criticise, but it’s not a good night,” McKellar remarked.

“We gave up too many needless penalties and too many turnovers in crucial areas tonight, but the players battled valiantly, and I know they’re hurting inside because they genuinely care about the team.”

For this group, next week is really important. We’re saying goodbye to players who mean a lot to us and our supporters; Mattioli Woods Welford Road will see another sizable crowd. That is important.

Thus, we shall refrain from sullying one other. On Monday, we’ll be in and ready to go so Exeter can round up the season strong.
