Eddie Howe to consider replacing Ten Hag at Man Utd, as Newcastle stance on brutal exit emerges
Although TEAMtalk knows Newcastle does not anticipate losing their manager in what would be a devastating departure, Eddie Howe will seriously consider joining Manchester United if an approach is made.
As the richest club in the world, Newcastle is still in the early stages of their new era. The owners, who are from Saudi Arabia, are sure they will lead the team to the pinnacle of English football and establish them as a major power in European football.
Eddie Howe was selected as Newcastle’s manager in November 2021, fulfilling one of the club’s top priorities: hiring a manager who would stay with the team for many years. According to the board, they hoped he would be “our version of Sir Alex Ferguson” and serve at St. James’ Park for a long time.
Recently, the Magpies have been challenged for that ambition by several clubs interested in their management and the FA. Before selecting Thomas Tuchel as the new England manager, the governing body of English football had evaluated Howe.
However, the FA decided that Howe’s wages were too high, and as a result, he was eliminated from consideration.
Howe would have been very interested in the England position, but Newcastle can relax knowing the position is already occupied till the summer of 2026.
However, Howe is expected to be involved in another high-profile role, so Newcastle cannot afford to remain complacent.
Eddie Howe being eyed by Man Utd
Manchester United is monitoring Howe’s condition in light of persistent rumours that they may bench Erik ten Hag at some point this season.
According to sources, Ten Hag’s dismissal may depend on Man Utd’s performance in their next two games, which are against Brentford in the Premier League and Fenerbahce in the Europa League.
Additionally, we’ve been told that Howe is now one of two managers the Red Devils are considering after Manchester United lost out on Tuchel. The other is Graham Potter, who is now single and would be much simpler to sign.
Howe has had tense connections at Newcastle, most notably with Paul Mitchell, the director of football, so things haven’t been completely easy.
But according to reports, the two are now in a strong and professional relationship, and it is not seen to be a significant problem behind the scenes.
The fact that Newcastle let Dan Ashworth join Manchester United infuriated the former Bournemouth manager.
If Manchester United decides to make a bid, Newcastle may be concerned about the close bond between Howe and Ashworth. As Man Utd’s sporting director, Ashworth would have a significant influence on Ten Hag’s replacement.
Ten Hag is still in control at Old Trafford as of right now, but he is being closely watched, and his options are being considered.
According to sources at Newcastle, Howe will stay until the end of the season at the latest, so they are not too worried.
However, Howe will give the strategy careful thought if the Manchester Reds make an attempt.
