REPORT: Rangers move for a player could spell Ibrox end for player who frustrates Philippe Clement

Few Rangers players are beyond Philippe Clement’s consideration for sale, particularly in light of the near-universal need for improvement at every position.

It appeared that the management and Nils Koppen had convinced Jose Cordoba to accompany Jefte’s signing until, without warning, the agreement fell through.

As one name is eliminated, another one comes to light. According to sources in South America, Thomas Galdames is close to concluding a move to Europe, with Rangers at the top of the waiting list. Does this indicate one existing team member’s time may be running out?

Ridvan Yilmaz of the Rangers could leave thanks to Thomas Galdames’ relationship.

One clear question arises after reading what South American football journalist Nathan Joyes had to say about the 25-year-old Chilean defender:

Thomas Galdames, 25, of Godoy Cruz, has been linked to a move to Rangers FC.

“The Chilean left-back can deliver a quality pass both inside the play and from set pieces. He is confident in the final third and at ease with both feet.

“Also contributed to a defence that hasn’t given up many goals in 2024.”

Why would Rangers need another left-back when Jefte is already a signed player?

The Clement transfer plan’s decision-making consideration may be his injury history.

Similar to Calvin Bassey, Galdames can play left back or centre half with similar ease, but his “weak” foot is stronger.

He is a desirable option due to his versatility, but it appears that Philippe Clement is well into implementing his philosophy of moving on from players with questionable injury histories.

The manager of the Gers has expressed his frustration on multiple times regarding the club’s injury situation and specific players who are unable to maintain their fitness.

In contrast to the present duo of Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz, neither Jefte nor Galdames have missed any senior football plays, which will be welcome news to Clement.

Barisic is rumoured to be joining Trabzonspor, and Ridvan has been linked to a return to Turkey in every transfer window since signing—despite a rough stretch in the new year.

There were rumours circulating up until the January deadline that the 23-year-old was returning to his native country.

When the summer window closes, it would come as more of a surprise to find him still with the Rangers.

Ridvan is accused of being insufficiently physical to handle Scottish football, among other things.

It’s not so much that he does better work when he has the ball in his hands as when he doesn’t.

The fact that he needs a few games to get up to speed before being hurt soon after doesn’t help his case.

Although Galdames’ perception by Clement as a center-half is erroneous, the writing seems to be on the wall for a player who has divided opinion since day one, especially with two left-backs either signed or maybe on the way.
