Reporter makes intriguing comment over potential Birmingham City move for Bolton Wanderers boss

Birmingham City mention Ian Evatt in new boss hunt, but interview unlikely

According to reporter Alan Nixon, Birmingham City has made mention of Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt in their quest for a new leader, but it’s unlikely that he would be given an interview.

The following season, Birmingham City will play in League One alongside Bolton Wanderers.

The side that was demoted is also looking for a new leader. Since Tony Mowbray stepped down, a number of names have been associated with the St. Andrew’s position; Alex Neil is reportedly one of those who has been in discussions with the team.

A fascinating remark on Birmingham City’s possible pursuit of Bolton Wanderers star Ian Evatt has surfaced recently.

When questioned about the situation on X, reporter Alan Nixon said that talks about their next boss had brought up the 42-year-old’s name, but he added that he wasn’t sure if Evatt “gets an interview.”

Since July 2020, Evatt has led the Bolton Wanderers. They were on the verge of winning the championship again under his leadership when they advanced from League Two, but they were unsuccessful this year.

He still has two years left on his current deal with the team.

Would Evatt accompany you?

Even though Nixon stated he was unsure about a possible interview, time will tell if Birmingham City shows any more interest in Evatt.

Chairman Sharon Brittain recently talked about how Evatt has declined opportunities to leave Bolton Wanderers for teams in higher leagues where more money is on offer. The former Barrow boss has made an impression in his time in the dugout.

That being said, it would come as a huge surprise if he left the Trotters to sign with a team now playing in the same league.

Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers might compete for promotion in the upcoming campaign. The Trotters will be motivated to make an impression by placing in the top two after failing to do so this year; however, it remains to be seen if they can accomplish this with Evatt leading the way.

The search for the Blues

Birmingham City will be searching around for a new general manager.

It is imperative that they get this one correct. They require a manager who can take them back to the Championship and instill some trust in the board following their relegation as a result of their appalling decision to fire John Eustace.

Although the board’s ambitious plans for the future inspire confidence, another bad management choice would undoubtedly cast doubt on their ability to make sound football-related decisions.

It will take time to see who takes charge at St. Andrew’s, but given that Evatt has been mentioned, it would be surprising if he left Bolton Wanderers for a league competitor after declining chances in the Championship.
