Ipswich Town striker Ali Al-Hamadi has criticised the EFL Championship Team of the Year for leaving Tractor Boys midfielder Sam Morsy out.
The Suffolk club’s new signing took to social networking platform X (previously known as Twitter) to call Morsy’s omission ‘ridiculous’. Ipswich were not without recognition at the EFL Awards presentation, with head coach Kieran McKenna winning Championship Manager of the Year and left-back Leif Davis chosen to the Team of the Season. Wes Burns, a right-winger, also won EFL Goal of the Year for his trivela earlier this season at Portman Road.
Leeds, meanwhile, saw three of their players named to the division’s Best XI. Crysencio Summerville, Ethan Ampadu, and Georginio Rutter were all present for their nominations at the black tie ceremony in London, where Summerville also won Championship Player of the Season.
“Congratulations to @Leifdavis_3, @wesley__burns, and the boss for their EFL awards. “Everything is well deserved,” Al-Hamadi wrote. “Not having @sammorsy08 in Team of the Season is ridiculous though.”
Morsy has made 39 league appearances for Ipswich this season, missing just games due to yellow card accumulation, while contributing three goals and five assists to the club’s promotion campaign. Leicester City’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Norwich City’s Gabriel Sara were instead picked as center midfielders in the Team of the Year.
Al-Hamadi joined Ipswich from AFC Wimbledon in January after impressing in League Two over the previous 18 months, and he has adjusted well to life in the Championship, scoring four goals in his first 280 minutes, bringing his season total to 21.
Ipswich will play Hull City and Coventry City away before hosting Huddersfield Town on the final day at Portman Road.
