Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for Celtic captain Callum McGregor’s performance off the bench in the second half against St Mirren.
With McGregor coming off the bench for the final 19 minutes of the game, Rodgers highlighted his presence and assuredness in ultimately securing a 3-0 win.
Rodgers said: [BBC Sport], “I’m really pleased with the subs. Guys come onto the game, we talked about that, there. We got to keep the energy, keep the momentum, Cal (Callum McGregor) coming in, brilliant, really good. He looked like he’d never been away with that sort of cameo.”
McGregor’s minutes are certainly being managed, with next weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen at Hampden.
It will be interesting to see just how many minutes he plays in that game.
Undoubtedly, Rodgers will have an eye on the final Glasgow derby of the season in the Scottish Premiership at Celtic Park for McGregor to start, meaning we may well see McGregor continue to be on the bench until that fixture.
One thing is clear: every bit of the Scottish midfielder’s experience will prove vital in that Glasgow derby, with his ability to dominate the midfield sorely missed in the second half at Ibrox last weekend.
