Numerous names have been thrown into the mix over the past few weeks in an attempt by Nottingham Forest to sign a new striker before Friday’s transfer deadline. Although it may seem cruel that the team is searching for new options following Chris Wood’s 14 Premier League goals in the previous season, owner Evangelos Marinakis is demonstrating his ambition. At one point, Eddie Nketiah seemed the most likely, but a deal fell through after the Englishman and the Arsenal star could not come to an agreement on personal terms. Now, Nketiah is expected to transfer to Crystal Palace.
Another name that has been floated is Vitor Roque, but the Reds have a few days still to pursue their pursuit after he moved on loan to Real Betis in Spain.
They might therefore focus on a single target who has already drawn attention from Manchester United.
Nottingham Forest’s search for a striker
Before Friday’s deadline, Nottingham Forest is reportedly focusing on Ajax attacker Brian Brobbey, according to Football Insider.
The 22-year-old was called up to the Netherlands national team for Euro 2024 after having an outstanding 2023–24 Eredivisie campaign in which he scored eight goals and provided eight assists. The Ajax player is the newest player on Forest’s radar after they were unable to sign Nketiah last week, according to the source, which claims that the club is desperate to find a new center-forward before the deadline.
But Brobbey would cost Nuno Espirito Santo’s team a lot of money; prior rumors said that the Dutch team valued the young player at over £30 million.
In addition to being a fantastic addition due to his goal scoring record, his all-around performance fits in well with the Reds’ current system, making him a great substitute for another current target.
Why Brobbey would be the perfect Gimenez alternative
The controversy surrounding Santiago Gimenez, a striker for Feyenoord, has been going on for a number of days. Different rumors have suggested different things regarding a possible transfer to the City Ground.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed yesterday that although Forest has had three bids for the 23-year-old Mexican international rejected, the club is still attempting to finalize a deal.
Gimenez would be getting a deal for about €33 million (£28 million), which is a fair price considering his 29 goals and 29 assists in the Eredivisie last season.
The Ajax star might be a better choice for the Reds than Gimenez, but the team is still in the running for Brobbey. Even though the “exceptional” Dutchman, according to scout Antonio Mango, did not contribute as many goals as the Mexican did in the previous campaign, he was more effective with his final-third opportunities due to his better shot-on-target percentage.
In addition, he won more aerial duels and produced more shot-creating actions per ninety, giving Nuno’s center forwards the target man and aerial threat he looks for.
Brobbey demonstrated his skill with the ball at his feet by completing more takeaways and increasing his pass accuracy rate. This was an important ability to have as the team moved toward becoming a more possession-based lineup.
Gimenez is still unquestionably the club’s top priority, but with the transfer window closing in a few days, there isn’t much time left to get a deal done for a player who can really elevate the Reds. With his ability to bulldoze any defender who stands in his way, Brobbey has proven in the Netherlands that he has all the tools necessary to succeed in the Premier League.
For a young player who has shown he can score goals and who has room to grow in the East Midlands, £30 million would be a fair price.
