SAD NEWS: Godden, Allen – Coventry City injury update ahead of big Leeds United clash

Coventry City injury news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues boss Mark Robins provides an update on striker Matty Godden and midfielder Jamie Allen ahead of Saturday’s match against Leeds United

Coventry City will continue to be without Matty Godden and Jamie Allen when they take on Leeds United at the CBS Arena this weekend.

The striker was at Monday’s game watching in the stands with his family as the Sky Blues suffered a 2-1 loss to Cardiff City after suffering an injury in Good Friday’s 3-1 win at Huddersfield, having gone on in the 83rd minute to replace Ellis Simms. It had been hoped the 32-year-old would recover in time to be included in Saturday’s squad to face second placed Leeds at home.

But manager Mark Robins revealed in his pre-match press conference today: “He’s still not right so he’ll be missing tomorrow. “He’s got a small problem with his calf but it’s been a week now so he should be available sometime next week.”As for Jamie Allen, who returned to full training during the international break last week following a seven week recovery from a fractured cheekbone he suffered against Sheffied Wednesday in the FA Cup, the midfielder has picked up a comeback injury.

Asked if he has any chance of being available for the weekend, Robins said: “He’s got a specific setback. He’s got a calf injury at the minute. It’s just tight because he’s been out for so long. You try to ramp things up and it just has a knock-on effect. So it’s just a little bit of tightness in his calf which means it’s going to takes a little bit longer to get back.”

He added: “He’s still trying to work his way back to full fitness after his time off, so no Jamie tomorrow either.”
