Everton are demonstrating significant ambition this summer, investing where needed to keep their squad competitive.
Whether it’s an effort to persuade key players like Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana to remain with the club or simply to provide Sean Dyche with everything he needs to succeed, for Everton fans, this represents a welcome shift.
However, despite already finalizing three deals, a fourth one remains uncertain.
It seems a transfer battle has started.
Everton is still in contention for Jaden Philogene. Fabrizio Romano reported on Everton’s interest in Philogene just yesterday, posting an update on X late at night.
He wrote: “EXCL: Jaden Philogene’s move to Barcelona now looks complicated and unlikely as he’s prioritizing a Premier League move.”
“Understand three clubs have sent him proposals: Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Everton. Decision expected soon.”
The Toffees have long been interested in the Hull City winger, while Ipswich Town will be particularly familiar with him since they competed in the same league last season.
The skillful winger, praised for his “ridiculous” quality by former manager Liam Rosenior, reportedly has a £17 million valuation.
Which Premier League team should he choose?
To remain unbiased, it’s important to evaluate which of the three Premier League teams vying for him would be the best fit for Philogene.
First, there is Everton. Arguably the most prominent club of the three, their recent history of three consecutive relegation battles might make them less appealing.
However, having overcome significant challenges last season and now reinvesting in the squad with signings like Iliman Ndiaye, there is reason for optimism.
The prospect of playing in the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium should also appeal to the 22-year-old.
Then there’s newly-promoted Ipswich Town, clearly ready to spend and make a strong effort to achieve safety.
They play great football and are undoubtedly a club on the rise, with a young and exciting manager. Philogene would likely be a guaranteed starter, but this move carries the highest risk of returning to the Championship.
With a strong track record of developing talent from the Championship into the Premier League, and with a spot likely to open up when Michael Olise moves to Bayern Munich, this move makes sense.
Dyche and Kevin Thelwell will need to work hard to convince him otherwise.
