Jonson Clarke-Harris, who just joined nearby rival Rotherham United, has lavished praise on Sheffield Wednesday. After playing for Peterborough United for the previous four years, the striker re-signed for The Millers last week on a free transfer.
With 87 goals in 189 games, Clarke-Harris has been Posh’s top scorer for the last three of his four seasons. Despite his 29 goals in the 2022–2023 season, Clarke–Harris’s incredible play-off comeback on Wednesday prevented Peterborough from receiving a promotion. The 29-year-old scored the game’s fourth goal as Posh destroyed the Owls 4-0 in the play-off first-leg, but a few days later, Wednesday rallied for a decisive 5-1 triumph, forcing the veteran to watch from the sidelines.
One year later, Clarke-Harris has praised Wednesday, saying the atmosphere at Hillsborough was the “best” he had ever witnessed.
Sheffield Wednesday are absolutely ‘relentless’
The attacker remarked, “We delivered an amazing performance to beat Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 in the play-off semi-final first leg,” in an interview with Peterborough’s official website. “But looking back, I wish we had won 1-0 or 2-0 because they came to Hillsborough with nothing to lose and just threw the kitchen sink at us.” They played nothing like they did against us that night in any other game, if you look back at their season. They played in a very different way than they typically did, and giving up an early penalty and a full Hillsborough neither helped.

The Owls’ home form says it all
It isn’t the first time that Jonson Clarke-Harris has praised Sheffield Wednesday’s atmosphere, and it won’t be the last.
The Owls’ success has been greatly attributed to the Hillsborough support on numerous occasions. Although Danny Rohl deserves most of the credit for the team’s recent success, the supporters also bear much of the blame. In their last nine games played at home, Rohl’s team only lost one, while in their nine games overall, they only lost four under the German coach. Without their assistance, Wednesday might have collapsed, and they will undoubtedly be crucial in whatever transpires throughout the upcoming season.
