Derby County’s squad value as a result of their transfer window has boosted its value by £9m according toA new study by Grosvenor Casino analyzed squad values using data from Transfermarkt to identify the winners and losers of the summer transfer window. The data was collected from June 15, 2024, when clubs could start making transfers, until the window closed on September 1.
By calculating the percentage change in squad values, they determined which clubs saw their squad worth increase or decrease. Derby County emerged as one of the top winners, having added 11 players to their roster, which significantly boosted their squad value to £19,167,256—a 90% rise from the initial value of £10,068,07.
Derby made notable purchases, including a seven-figure deal for goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom from Djugarden, along with fees for Ebou Adams from Cardiff and Kenzo Goudmijn from AZ Alkmaar. They also secured free transfers for Kayden Jackson and Ben Osborn, and utilized the loan market to bring in Nat Phillips (Liverpool), Marcus Harness (Ipswich), David Ozoh (Crystal Palace), Jerry Yates (Swansea), and Tawanda Chirewa (Wolves).
Across the division, newly-promoted Oxford United saw the highest increase in squad value at 128%, followed by Sheffield Wednesday with a 116% rise. On the other hand, Burnley experienced the largest drop in squad value, decreasing by 25%, followed closely by Sheffield United, whose value fell by 24%. Despite this, Burnley were the Championship’s biggest spenders, investing £48 million and undergoing significant changes with 23 new signings and 28 player exits during the transfer window.
