Liverpool need to pay £70m to sign Marc Guehi
Liverpool’s interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has intensified as they seek to bolster their central defensive options following Joel Matip’s departure. Despite having depth in defense, the Reds are looking for reinforcements.
Previously linked with Leny Yoro, Liverpool appears set to miss out on him as he seems destined for Manchester United. Meanwhile, Arsenal also pursued Guehi, particularly impressed by his performances for England during the 2024 Euro Championships. However, Arsenal has reportedly been priced out of a move for Guehi, leading them to pursue Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori instead.
Guehi joined Crystal Palace from Chelsea in 2021 for £18 million, and his value has since soared to over £70 million, with Chelsea due a significant profit share on any future transfer.
Liverpool, who have yet to make any signings this summer, may hesitate to meet Palace’s valuation for Guehi. Despite his qualities as a strong, experienced defender adept in tackles and clearances, the financial aspect could be a deterrent for Liverpool at this stage of the transfer window. They may explore alternative options or consider player-plus-cash deals to facilitate a move for Guehi.
Crystal Palace, having already sold Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, are determined to retain their key players, including Guehi, amidst heightened interest from top clubs.
