Penn State coach James Franklin facing shocking allegations
James Franklin, the head coach of the Nittany Lions, has come under fire from a former Penn State physician who claims he meddles in his players’ medical decisions.
James Franklin, the head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions, is the subject of startling accusations this week. Franklin was accused of meddling in the medical decisions of players on his roster by a former Penn State administrator.
Among those who posted on the startling accusation made against Franklin were On3.
The Philadelphia Inquirer provided the first report.
REPORT: A former Penn State physician has accused James Franklin of meddling in athlete medical choices.
According to On3, the claims against Franklin were made by Dr. Pete Seidenberg, a former Penn State medical faculty member.
John Luciew of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Franklin apparently went too far. Seidenberg described how Franklin and the athletic director at the time, Randy Barbour, of Penn State, wanted a player who had made an attempt at suicide to be medically removed from the team while he was seeking short-term mental health treatment, On3 wrote.
That player would forfeit his scholarship in the event of a medical DQ.
According to the investigation, the Penn State coach met with authorities “many times” with the intention of “changing their medical decisions and the treatment recommendations and options provided to players.”
Dr. Scott Lynch is the plaintiff in an ongoing lawsuit against Penn State. Lynch said that his dismissal was due to his refusal to “allow a coach to interfere with his medical treatment and return-to-play decisions,” according to On3.
Right now, this is a tough position to read, and these claims are horrendous. This will probably continue to be a drawn-out legal dispute that will end in one way or another.
