Singer-songwriter Ciara was stunned to discover she is a DNA cousin of New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter. Ciara has appeared on PBS’s “Finding Your Roots” and the program hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. examines celebrities’ DNA samples to help them determine their ancestry.
The show also helps determine if they are distantly related to other stars.What a world,” exclaimed Ciara at the presentation with the great athlete. ‘You are making a fool of me.’“This is your DNA cousin,” Gates said. The show explains how Ciara and Jeter’s relationship is based on a long, identical DNA sequence on their 14th chromosome.Ciara’s husband, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, reposted the clip on PBS and joked with his caption.” I always knew ! @Captain of the Yankees!’ Wilson wrote with a crying, laughing and trophy emoji.Jeter had previously appeared on the show and learned more about his heritage. The show revealed that his great-great-grandfather Green Jeter started a church in Alabama in 1872 that is still active today. Like Ciara, actor Jim Gaffigan also discovered he was distantly related to Jeter on the show.Jeter led the Yankees to five World Series titles while making fourteen All-Star appearances. Jeter hit 260 home runs and 3,465 hits while batting for a .310 average.In 2014, Jeter called it a career after 20 seasons, all spent with the Yankees.
