After yet another challenging night at Victory Park, Quakers dropped to 18th place in the National League North standings, four points above the relegation zone.
Although it wasn’t nearly as bad as the season before, when they gave up eight goals against Chorley, it was still a well-earned loss, and their own injuries were costly.
Chorley took the lead in the eighth minute after Scott Barrow gave up possession in his own area. The hosts doubled their lead halfway through the second half after Kallum Griffiths gave up a penalty. Shortly after the hour, Chorley added a third goal to end the match.
“We were aware that coming here would be difficult,” Watson remarked. They’re a really positive side. They work hard and are physically fit and athletic.
We were aware that it would be challenging to defeat them and that we would need to exercise patience and play the game as long as possible. Unfortunately, though, it’s difficult enough to play against a squad here without giving them an advantage and scoring opportunities.
The disappointing thing is that we essentially accomplished that three times. We’ve committed mistakes that ended the game before we could fully explore it.
Quakers will be looking to improve their winning streak when they play Warrington Town at home this weekend, as they have only won one of their last six league games.
Even though Watson acknowledges that it will take them a game or two to return to full speed, he is at least beginning to welcome some of his injured players back into the fold.
Although the striker played the first 66 minutes against Chorley before being substituted by Andrew Nelson, Watson acknowledges he is still working his way back towards his prime. The loss of Cedric Main has been particularly detrimental in the first few months of the season.
The Quakers manager stated, “We have people returning from injuries who are not quite there yet.” Cedric isn’t quite there yet, as you can see, but we must overcome that and gain him some minutes. That will benefit him.
