Sign the contract’ – Fratton faithful all say same thing after Portsmouth defender’s statement from Las Vegas

Anyone know any right-backs? - The key question Portsmouth defender asked as Fratton Park stay remains up in the air

Zak Swanson made 19 appearances for Pompey this season, seven of which came as League One starts.

It’s fair to say, Zak Swanson could have felt under-appreciated this week.

Pompey’s decision not to extend his two-year contract at Fratton Park will be disappointing for the 23-year-old player.

The Blues’ willingness to bargain with the player on terms they are more comfortable with will have been equally difficult to accept.

When it comes to his future, the former Arsenal defender definitely has the upper hand, yet Pompey appears to be tugging the strings.

However, if Swanson, who is presently in Las Vegas with up to 17 of his League One title-winning teammates, is still unsure what to do, he has been reminded of his value among the Fratton faithful on numerous occasions. That comes after the right-back shared another message on social media from The Strip.

Following his ‘Anyone know any right-backs?’ post on Friday, the Pompey man expressed his admiration for the Blues. He wrote, ‘I love pompey’, along with a blue heart emoji.

A second photo of him and Joe Rafferty, who will be departing the club at the end of his contract, was uploaded shortly after as the two enjoyed Vegas’ legendary nightlife. However, it was the ‘I love pompey’ post that received the most attention. Indeed, the response from Blues fans was unanimous: sign the contract!

Swanson has made 44 appearances for Pompey over two seasons and has impressed. However, his stay with the club has been plagued by injuries, notably a recurring groyne issue.

The Blues have provided the defender a pathway to staying in the Championship with revised terms that include his fitness. In response to the transaction, John Mousinho stated, “We could have taken the option in Zak’s contract and fully protected ourselves. We’re fully aware that Zak could now speak to other football clubs.”

‘The motivation behind the decision is to ensure that we have some flexibility in the contract, to offer what we believe would work for both parties.

‘That is what we have decided to do with Zak, so it is now between Zak, his agent, and the football club, and we’ll see how things go.

“The most important thing for Zak is to stay fit, and I think everyone understands that.”
