Asghar, 29, was only appointed manager of the Saints’ Under-21 team last year. Nevertheless, despite them qualifying for the Premier League under Russell Martin last weekend, he left the promoted Championship team after just a year and a half.

According to the Daily Record’s most recent update on his status, he is set to relocate to Celtic Park and take over as the Hoops’ new Under-18 manager. The team led by Brendan Rodgers defeated rival Rangers to win both the Scottish Cup and the League Cup this past season, and they will be aiming to keep their titles next year.

Coach of Southampton makes a new move

Asghar is a native of Glasgow, thus he would move back home if he joined Celtic.

The Scotsman began his coaching career with stints at Motherwell and Dundee United and currently possesses a UEFA Elite Youth A coaching licence.

In October 2022, Asghar relocated south of the border after being appointed manager of Sunderland’s Under-18 team.

After that, he played for the Black Cats in the North East for a year, until Southampton’s relegation from the top flight allowed them to entice him to move south.According to journalist Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, Swansea City was also connected to him at the time.

What brings Southampton next?

Even before Southampton’s victory over Leeds United at Wembley on Sunday afternoon in the play-off final, they were aware that Asghar was departing. On May 14th, they verified his resignation.

As they prepare for life again in the Premier League, that has given them time to locate a successor for him.

To remain competitive in the league above, the Saints must make sure that they make the appropriate hiring decisions over the course of the upcoming few months.

After managing MK Dons and Swansea City in the past, Martin was appointed in June 2023 and will be keen to prove his mettle at the highest level.
