Ben Johnson of West Ham United during their Premier League match on April 14, 2024, in London at London Stadium vs Fulham FC.
Ben Johnson, a Southampton target, is free.
In addition to Premier League experience, Martin is eager to expand his alternatives at full back come summertime.

Although Taylor’s arrival would give Ryan Manning competition at left-back, the Southampton manager may also be interested in adding someone on the other side, based on the quantity of right-back targets rumored.

Ben Johnson of West Ham United takes a seat while West Ham United manager David Moyes and first team coach Kevin Nolan (R) watch on.
Since Ralph Hasenhuttl was in charge, Southampton has been interested in Johnson.

Johnson is a desirable prospect due to his versatility as a right and left back; during the previous season, the 24-year-old also saw action in center midfield.

For the last four and a half years, David Moyes has managed Johnson, and despite the fact that Johnson never secured a regular starting position, the now-departed West Ham manager desired to keep him with the team.

During a November 2021 interview, Moyes expressed his admiration for Johnson, stating, “He’s a really important player for us.” He is a key member of the team and squad.

We’ve utilized him in a variety of ways and brought him on frequently. He’s had some experience playing, and he did not disappoint by scoring a fantastic goal in midweek.

It’s advantageous for Vladimir because Ryan Fredericks and I have competition. Right now, I believe Ben is doing incredibly well. He filled in during a time when neither of our other two right backs was available. He performed better than everybody else.

Although Ipswich Town is supposedly in “advanced talks” with Johnson, Southampton is not the only team pursuing him; this is their best opportunity to capture him.

Before they return to the Premier League, it will be a tremendously smart business move if they can accomplish it for free.
