Plymouth Argyle boss Wayne Rooney was seriously impressed by one West Brom player at the weekend
Josh Maja was the hero for West Bromwich Albion once more as he scored his team’s sixth goal in six Championship games to secure a 1-0 victory at The Hawthorns. With three more points, the Baggies will have made 16 of their possible 18 points this season, maintaining their incredible undefeated start. Maja has been a key component of that run, giving West Brom a reliable and appropriate center-forward outlet at last.
In his first six games in charge, Rooney, who has guided Plymouth to one victory, two draws, and three losses, made sure to congratulate Maja on his excellent work.
He’s an intriguing talent who can be challenging to prepare for. We knew that he would drop in and assume a false nine position, Rooney said to our sister daily Express & Star following the game on Saturday. “At times, I thought we handled him okay, but when a player is confident in his ability to score goals, he seems to always find that one moment when he can make the difference. “I felt like we handled him pretty effectively at times, but he makes the play that ends up winning the game. Rooney remarked, “He’s a good player, and West Brom are a good team—they’re very experienced and know how to get results.”
Admiration from such a great former player will undoubtedly be appreciated by Maja, who is having one of his best seasons as an English player thus far. Rooney has a lot of experience scoring goals; he is, after all, the record goalscorer for Manchester United and topped the charts for the England national team for a considerable amount of time before Harry Kane took over.
