Stansfield: Donovan stays in Birmingham City’s dream end to the transfer

There are 10 days of the transfer window remaining and Birmingham City could be busy

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies

As the transfer window enters its last ten days, Birmingham City has to make some adjustments.

Over the last two months, Chris Davies and Craig Gardner, the technical director, have collaborated to bring in 11 new players. Blues have invested a lot of money to revamp the team that was responsible for the club’s Championship-level drop the previous season.

There are still issues to resolve, and departures could alter plans as usual at this point in the window. However, in a perfect world, Blues would bring three more players to St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park to round out Davies’ roster.

The ideal ending Not to beat a dead horse, but it would be a real dream come true if Blues could persuade Fulham to sell Jay Stansfield before the deadline. During his loan time at Blues last season, Stansfield fell in love, and everyone in the building wants it to happen. At this point, Stansfield would have to push the trade because Fulham is unwilling to sell.

It would be nice to have a left-footed center-back to provide Davies with some defensive stability. In order to find a player with a comparable profile, Blues attempted to sign Dutch center-back Mike Eerdhuijzen earlier in the transfer window.

The concept of starting two right-footed center backs with left-back Alex Cochrane tucking in to make a back three in possession does appear to have clicked for Davies. In the middle of the back three, this gives Krystian Bielik the chance to demonstrate his skill with the ball.

A box-to-box midfielder similar to Jordan James would also be beneficial for the team. The Blues need an option other than Marc Leonard and Paik Seung-ho.

Regarding departures, it would be best if there are no significant exits before the August 30 deadline. While losing Siriki Dembele could be manageable, given the arrivals of Emil Hansson and Ayumu Yokoyama, losing Koji Miyoshi would necessitate further negotiations. Miyoshi has been crucial to Davies’ strategy so far, but there is some interest in the 27-year-old Japanese winger.
