Striker agreement extended after Sunderland and Ipswich transfer links, plus ex-Norwich manager reacts to firing.

Rivals in the Championship are preparing for the upcoming season, while Sunderland is still looking for a new head coach. These are a few headlines about second-tier teams, where head coach positions remain unfilled and retained lists are still being disclosed.

Sam Gallagher of Blackburn was touted as one of the strikers Sunderland was considering in January. A significant portion of the 2023–24 season was missed by the 28-year-old owing to an injury, and Ipswich was also reported to have shown interest in him.

Tyrhys Dolan and Gallagher’s one-year options have now been activated, according to Blackburn. Both midfielder John Fleck and defender Kyle McFadzean, who signed short-term contracts at Ewood Park till the end of the season in January, are also in talks with Rovers.

When Christoph and I arrived, we were confident that we could help the club compete for promotion, and while we are disappointed by the outcome against Leeds, we are also very proud of everyone at Norwich City’s efforts this season to reach the play-off semi-finals in such a competitive league. “Although I am disappointed to be leaving a club with so much potential, I respect that the club has decided to move in a different direction without Christoph and me.”

Former Sunderland players released Derby County has also announced their retained list, as the Rams prepare to return to the Championship. Along with former Sunderland players Martyn Waghorn and Conor Hourihane, who came through the ranks on Wearside but never made a senior appearance, Derby have confirmed that Dwight Gayle and Korey Smith, as well as goalkeepers Scott Loach and Joe Wildsmith, will leave the club this summer when their contracts expire.Former Sunderland players released Derby County has also announced their retained list, as the Rams prepare to return to the Championship.
