Max Bird explains how Wayne Rooney played a ‘big part’ in his Derby County breakthrough

Wayne Rooney’s “big part” in his breakthrough at Derby County has been praised by Max Bird.

Max Bird has finally left Derby County after 14 years there in preparation for his move to Bristol City.

The midfield player’s departure was made official during the January transfer window, and he then signed a loan deal to stay at Pride Park until the end of the campaign.

Bird enrolled in the Rams’ academy in 2010 and, at the age of just 16, made his official debut in September 2017.

With 200 club matches under his belt, the 23-year-old has established himself as a staple in the senior squad since making his debut under Philip Cocu during the 2019–20 campaign.

With six goals and seven assists this season, including an early opening in his final game as a member of Derby’s starting lineup in the victory over Carlisle United, Bird was a major factor in Derby’s promotion.

What Wayne Rooney did upon his breakout is described by Max Bird.

Prior to moving to Ashton Gate, Bird expressed his gratitude to Wayne Rooney for helping him achieve success in the Midlands.

Wayne Rooney played a significant part for me’, he remarked in an interview with Derby County’s official website. He revealed something that I had been holding inside of me and filled me with so much positive energy.

“I felt like I made my mark that season because he showed me how he wanted me to play, and it suited me.”

Bird was a mainstay at Pride Park under Rooney, contributing positively to their season-ending relegation to the Championship.

During his tenure at the team, the former England international provided chances to several younger players, including Jason Knight, Lee Buchanan, and Louie Sibley, who all saw regular playing time.

Derby player Luke Plange, who played 26 games, praised Rooney as the “best and most important coach” of his career.

The only true management success Rooney had was at Derby, and it was a shame that his departure was due to off-field problems at the team.

It is now necessary to assist Paul Warne in the Championship.

The Rams won’t look back now that they have gained promotion once more, but it would have been intriguing to see how much further the 38-year-old could have led them if they had avoided a point deduction.

Although Paul Warne had some flak when they were in League One, he deserves a second chance after leading them to the Championship.

Although Derby has had some challenging times recently, they shouldn’t be planning to instantly return to the third division.
