Sunderland Is About To Attack West Bromwich Albion’s Transfer Objective

In order to acquire a new center-forward, Sunderland will enter the transfer window this summer. They have already identified a striker that West Bromwich Albion had previously been interested in signing in January.

The Black Cats’ season was a bust, as they were unable to replicate their success from the previous season’s play-off semi-final finish. That season, they lost 3-2 on aggregate to Luton Town, who went on to win the Premier League title and earn a trip to Wembley.

Just before Christmas, Tony Mowbray, who led the team to a top-six finish in 2022–2023—was fired, and Michael Beale, who took over, did not fare much better. After just 12 games, Beale was removed from his position, and Mike Dodds led the team for the rest of the season. Regretfully, Sunderland only won two of their last 13 games, and they ultimately finished 16th, seven points above the relegation zone.

One problem persisted throughout the team’s ups and downs: they were in dire need of a productive center striker. With 15 goals in all competitions, winger Jack Clarke was the Black Cats’ leading goalscorer at the end of the season. Jobe Bellingham, the club’s second-highest goalscorer, only scored seven goals. Nazariy Rusyn, who only scored twice, was the striker with the most goals at the Stadium of Light during the 2023–2024 season. After being connected to players like Kieffer Moore and Ali Al-Hamadi in January, Sunderland’s performance rapidly declined when they were unable to sign a number “9” midway through the season.

The board is aware that in order to push for promotion the next season, obtaining a frontman this summer is crucial. According to Football Insider, Divin Mubama, a young player for West Ham United who is expected to leave the Hammers next month due to an expired contract, is the target of the Sunderland board.

The teenager was reportedly being watched by Derby County and West Brom, who were looking to add him to their forward line during the winter transfer window. Mubama can now select the club he wants to play for, albeit there will be plenty to pick from.
