It is well known that Swansea City wants Carl Rushworth, the goalie for Brighton & Hove Albion, to return for the upcoming season on loan. Luke Williams has stated as much, and the fact that Rushworth was one of just four players to play every minute of the Championship season speaks volumes about the influence he had while on loan this season. He also won three player of the year accolades.
Because of his success in SA1, he was even connected to the England squad before Euro 2024, which gave many people hope that he would play regularly for England in the future.
After spending a season in League Two with Walsall and a League One campaign with Lincoln prior to joining the Swans last summer, Rushworth has a solid foundation in his profession.A guy who won’t turn twenty-three until this summer has already made over one hundred and thirty appearances in the league.
Given that degree of advancement and the fact that he still has ties to England, it seems only fitting that Carl’s next season will be in the Premier League. If the opportunity to compete at the greatest level arises, he will undoubtedly seize it.
Ipswich, who secured their berth in the Premier League last weekend with a victory over Huddersfield, and who now sit second automatically behind Champions Leicester City, are the most recent team to be linked to Rushworth.Rushworth is already being linked to a goalkeeping job, so they may need to search for a new goalkeeper this summer as Vaclav Hladky and Christian Walton’s contracts at Portman Road expire and they may decide to go on.
Furthermore, there are rumours that Arsenal is interested in Brighton custodian Jason Steele, which suggests that the Seagulls may decide to keep Rushworth on as a backup or first choice for the upcoming campaign. In this case, the question is whether Rushworth, who has been on loan at the club, will be content to spend a season on the bench following three years as their first choice. The goalkeeper’s season-long bench rest does not seem like a logical next step, and it appears as though his Brighton future will hinge on whether he has a genuine chance to play in the first team.
If the Ipswich interest is real and not just a hoax, it’s definitely something to think about. If they decide to pursue that course, which would be appealing to Rushworth, they are likely in a position to think about making a permanent move for him. The drawback is that Burnley, Sheffield United, and Luton, the three promoted teams from the previous season, will all likely be starting as favourites to be relegated in the Championship the first time around.Rushworth would undoubtedly have a busy season, though, and even if Ipswich are relegated at the first attempt, a string of Premier League performances similar to those we seen at Swansea will likely spark greater interest in him.
While this is all conjecture for now, it does indicate that Rushworth will be in the mix in summer, which will lessen the likelihood that the Swans will be able to sign Carl for a second seasonlong loan. That will automatically indicate that we need to search elsewhere, and you have to question if Viktor Johansson’s name will come up in our conversation at this point.Despite the Millers’ complete relegation this season, the Rotherham keeper has occasionally shown himself to be a respectable player. It is said that he has a seven-figure release clause, which has already piqued the curiosity of teams in the Championship. It’s unclear if the Swans would want to spend that much on a custodian who has experience playing for a relegation team, but Rushworth is undoubtedly someone we want to collaborate with once more.
Carl Rushworth’s future may now be affected by a multitude of factors, plenty to consider, and much conjecture, but as they say, only time will tell.
