Swindon Town and Walsall Reunion Doesn’t Go to Plan As Player Told he can Leave

Cheltenham Town has appointed Michael Flynn, formerly of Swindon Town and Walsall, as their new manager following Darrell Clarke’s departure to Barnsley. However, Flynn’s reunion with Liam Kinsella, a former player, hasn’t gone as many anticipated.

Kinsella, who has played under Flynn at three different clubs, first met him at Walsall, where Kinsella spent the majority of his career. When Flynn became Swindon Town’s manager last summer, Kinsella joined him at the County Ground as part of the club’s overhaul. However, Kinsella’s time at Swindon was brief, and after Flynn’s dismissal, he moved to Cheltenham Town, only to face relegation from League One. With Flynn’s recent appointment at Cheltenham, Kinsella may have hoped for stability, but the situation has been less favorable than expected.

What Michael Flynn Has Said About Kinsella:

According to Gloucestershire Live, Flynn has informed Kinsella, along with two other players, that they can seek opportunities elsewhere:

“There have been no issues or conflicts,” Flynn stated. “Liam Kinsella is someone I’ve managed at three clubs; he’s a great professional and a fantastic guy. Tom Bradbury and Max Harris are also in the same situation. It’s been an honest conversation, and if opportunities arise for them, they will be allowed to leave. This is standard practice; I’ve experienced it myself as a player.”

Flynn’s decision might be surprising given Kinsella’s history with him. While Flynn had previously brought Kinsella along as a trusted player, it seems his role at Cheltenham no longer fits into Flynn’s plans. This development is likely disappointing for Kinsella, who had recently moved up to League One with Cheltenham.
