Takedown match is crucial for the Flying Fijians

The Flying Fijians have seen some areas they can try to expose next weekend against the All Blacks in San Diego, USA.

Head coach Mick Byrne says if the national side can be physical and get across the gain line like England did last week against the three-time world champions, then Fiji can get some quality balls for the backline.

Byrne believes many didn’t expect the pace that England played the game at last week but he knows Fiji will have to be better next weekend in San Diego.

Byrne believes the All Blacks performed well, but England could have won. Byrne responds that they have found a few vulnerabilities in the All Blacks’ defense that the Fiji Water Flying Fijians can expose. “Winning the tackle contest will open doors and show the public how good our team is. Our goal is to win the tackle contest and try to create some one-on-ones out wide.

If we can create a one-on-one for our team, we will be fine.” Last week, England persisted in pressuring the All Blacks to play defensively, and Byrne believes that Fiji needs to follow suit. Next Saturday, the Flying Fijians take on the All Blacks.
