Last season, Joe Milton performed well under centre for the Tennessee Volunteers despite being a placeholder.Nico Iamaleava, a highly rated phenom, is slated to take over as the starting quarterback. In the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against Iowa, Iamaleava completed 12 of 19 throws for 151 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for three more touchdowns in the Vols’ 35-0 win over the Hawkeyes. It’s worth mentioning that Iowa only allowed more than 20 points three times last season, so this was rather eye-opening.Iamaleava has Knoxville humming with anticipation for the 2024 season, and he’s poised and ready for a breakout season in Knoxville, Tennessee.
How Tennessee Volunteers Played In The Orange And White Game
The Volunteers are officially finished with spring football. The Orange Team narrowly defeated the White Team by four points. We got to observe a variety of young players and new transfers perform in front of Neyland Stadium. There was a lot of energy in the building since this team is so excited, optimistic, and hyped for the 2024 season. Nico Iamaleava did not get much playing time in the spring game. That’s most likely because Tennessee wants to assess how much depth they have at the position, which appears to be extremely excellent thus far, as quarterback Gaston Moore and Jake Merklinger performed admirably throughout the day.
Mike Matthews, a wide receiver, delivered a great performance in the orange and white game. He scored a long touchdown and routinely outpaced the defensive backs downfield. He also made important blocks on the edge, allowing other receivers to gain easy yardage downfield. Several other freshmen defenders, including Boo Carter, made some important stops throughout the afternoon. With the conclusion of the orange and white game, we were able to observe the depth and young potential of the Tennessee football team, and they will undoubtedly be an exciting team to watch in the approaching 2024 season.
