The £1.5 million striker who Sunderland rejected in January is now vying for the Golden Boot.

A striker who Sunderland was interested in signing in January is getting close to winning the English Football League’s Golden Boot.

Sunderland has needed strikers during multiple transfer windows, but they have never been able to acquire one.

or at the very least a respectable one.

Mason Burstow, Luis Hemir, and Nazariy Rusyn were three that Sunderland signed in the summer, yet between them, they have only managed three goals in the Championship this year.

It wouldn’t be shocking if none of them were in Sunderland’s starting lineup the next season; Hemir might be loaned out, Burstow’s Chelsea loan will expire, and there are internet rumors suggesting Rusyn wants to leave Sunderland.

In any case, Sunderland needs Kristjaan Speakman to locate a productive striker in the summer.

Sunderland miss out on striker signings in January

It has been known since January that Sunderland made two bids for forwards.

Naturally, neither of them signed a contract and were given official names, but it’s very possible that one of them was Kieffer Moore, a striker for Bournemouth who later signed a loan with Ipswich Town.

Macaulay Langstaff, a striker for Notts County, was another name connected.

The 27-year-old has drawn attention in League Two this year, and Sunderland was one of the teams who expressed interest in him during the January transfer window.

However, it is said that the Black Cats lost interest in Langstaff, who would have cost Sunderland £1.5 million.

Langstaff’s season total in League Two now stands at 28, having scored eight goals for Notts County since the end of January.

With four goals more than anybody else in the league, Langstaff appears to be a lock to take home the Golden Boot this year.
