The £15 million flop that West Brom signed turned out to be less valuable than Maja.

Despite their recent poor run that has made their strong hold on a Championship playoff berth weaker, West Bromwich Albion will continue to think that this is their season to secure promotion to the Premier League.

The Baggies have only triumphed in one of their previous six division games, a 2-0 victory over Rotherham United that was largely due to a questionable penalty ruling.

But, Carlos Corberan’s team won’t give up on their ranking in the top six and will aim to make a first-ever return to the top flight after leaving the elite division at the conclusion of the 2020–21 campaign.

The many transfer errors the Baggies suffered have left memories of playing against teams like Manchester United and Arsenal slightly tainted; this £15 million purchase from back in 2017 stands out as one of the team’s worst miscalculations.

The move of Oliver Burke to West Brom

Oliver Burke arrived to the Hawthorns six years ago with high expectations after making an impression at Nottingham Forest. He was paid a hefty £15 million to join.

But in the end, RB Leipzig emerged victorious, selling their drab attacker for enormous sums of money, who never really found success in his new German home after bidding farewell to the City Ground.

Burke, who was projected to be a star after leaving Forest, would only manage to score one goal and pick up two assists from 26 uninspiring outings at Leipzig.

But Leipzig wasn’t just chasing Burke blindly in the hopes that he would instantly turn into a major player; the Scottish forward scored six goals in 31 games for Forest to draw the attention of more important suitors.

However, similar to his spell in the Bundesliga, Burke would struggle even when rejoining the Baggies in England, making the £15 million the West Midlands club had spent appear like a massive waste of cash.
