So far, the Bluebirds have signed five players, but they have also seen Ebou Adams move to Derby County and Joel Colwill go on loan to Cheltenham Town. With five loanees returning to their parent clubs at the end of last season, manager Erol Bulut anticipates that Cardiff will add three or even four more players by the transfer deadline on Friday, August 30.

Expect additional player departures as well, so let’s explore what might happen in the next couple of weeks.

Cardiff has made strong signings this summer, filling the gaps left by talented loan players who left at the end of last season. Chris Willock, Calum Chambers, Wilfried Kanga, Anwar El Ghazi, and Alex Robertson offer a mix of youth, experience, and potential, with Kanga and Robertson adding an element of uncertainty at this level.

The club is also looking to the European market for potential recruits to strengthen both their attack and defense. Bulut mentioned, “We are looking abroad. We have contacts not just in the UK but across Europe and globally. Our scouts are working effectively in that direction.”

Bulut is specifically seeking a striker, a defender, a winger, and possibly another midfielder. The need for these players has become more pressing due to injuries to Kion Etete and Isaak Davies, who will be sidelined for three and four months, respectively. While the manager would prefer permanent signings, temporary loan deals might be more practical financially.

The budget for these new additions will be influenced by the revenue from player sales, leading to significant speculation.

Mark McGuinness is a key figure in this situation, attracting interest from Championship teams such as Luton Town. Cardiff has set a £10m price tag on the center-back, though it’s uncertain if any club will meet this valuation. The negotiations have been ongoing for two weeks without a final agreement.

Meanwhile, Ryan Wintle, who has been a reliable player since joining Cardiff in 2021, might be on the move as he is now considered surplus to requirements. His future is uncertain, but a loan exit could be a possibility.

Mahlon Romeo’s situation is complicated by recent controversy surrounding his comments following a drink-driving arrest. Cardiff has not yet made a public statement on their stance after Romeo apologized through the club.

With a shortage of right-backs, Cardiff has Perry Ng, Calum Chambers, and promising young player Ronan Kpakio as options. However, selling these players could provide significant funds for new signings, depending on owner Vincent Tan’s willingness to allocate the proceeds.

Finally, Bulut confirmed that Raheem Conte, Kieron Evans, and Malachi Fagan-Walcott will be sent out on loan before the window closes, and more young players might follow as the deadline approaches.
