The72’s writers offer their Luton Town vs Burnley prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Monday.
The first league match of Burnley’s 2024–25 Championship season takes place at Kenilworth Road against Luton Town.
Burnley’s new leadership is in place. Vincent Kompany, who abruptly left for Bayern Munich earlier this summer, is replaced by Scott Parker.
With his extensive Championship experience, the former manager of Bournemouth and Fulham will be looking to return Premier League football to Turf Moor at the soon possible moment.
Luton Town astonished a lot of people by moving up when they did, and much to everyone’s surprise, they were the best-performing newly promoted team the previous season, finishing one place ahead of Burnley.
However, they did fall short and it will be interesting to see how they react to relegation this season.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Thomas Kelly-Hansford
“Luton town haven’t been too busy this summer. Like every relegated side they have seen a fair few faces depart, but Rob Edwards’ side haven’t replaced them all.
“The Hatters will still have a strong squad for the division this season, and whilst they will ultimately want to aim for promotion again, whether it will happen this season remains to be seen.
“Burnley appears to be the more formidable team right now, and they have once again made some significant preparations for the upcoming campaign. Although there are still a few players who could leave before the deadline, nothing seems to be interfering with their training this summer. “Parker has already won two promotions. A victory away from home against a possible rival for promotion would be a big statement to start the season with, and although Luton Town won’t make it easy, I think the visitors will prevail.” Burnley 1-2 Luton Town is the prediction.
