For now, the Scottish Cup final is set to take precedence before everyone at the club takes a well-earned rest ahead of pre-season; meanwhile, some players will also head off to feature for their respective nations on international duty.
Over the coming weeks, speculation over transfers is bound to ramp up, with plenty of excitement regarding who could come in to bolster Rodgers’ side in several positions.
Now, John Hartson has weighed in on Celtic’s potential activity, opining that there is a striker the Irishman should seriously entertain acquiring if he is on the market.
John Hartson keen for Celtic to sign Adam Idah permanently
Loanee Adam Idah has been a smash hit at Celtic since joining on loan from Norwich City on deadline day, registering eight goals and two assists inside 18 appearances [Transfermarkt].
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, the Welshman believes that from what the Republic of Ireland international has shown in green and white, he is worth taking on as a permanent fixture should the price be in line with the Hoops’ financial capabilities.
He explained when asked about Idah’s situation: “I’ve said previously on this programme, I think in the game-time that he’s had, in terms of looking like a striker that can play for Celtic week-in, week-out, I don’t think he’s the finished article, I still think he’s a work in progress
“But, I think the finances that Celtic have and the finances that Brendan may well be given, I think he’s worth a punt on, I really do think that if it’s £4 million, I think he’s worth signing.
“He’s scored some big goals, he’s powerful, he runs in behind. Against Kilmarnock, his hold-up play was very, very good, better than what I’ve seen in previous games, so for £4 million/£4.5 million, I think he’s worth buying; I really do because he’s impressed while he’s been here.”
Celtic and the Adam Idah debate
You get the impression that debate over Idah’s future is going to rumble on most of the summer until a solution is reached between, Celtic, Norwich and the player himself.
For me, he has done enough to earn a move. According to reports, the Canaries want around £5 million for his services, which isn’t a ridiculous amount of money in the modern market.
