The latest Bluebirds news from Cardiff City Stadium
Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Friday, May 17.
Duo expected to leave
Sheyi Ojo and Romaine Sawyers are anticipated to be among those let go when the club releases its retained list.
Cardiff and the other clubs are required to turn in their retained lists to the EFL by tomorrow at noon, albeit they are not required to make them public for a few weeks.
However, it is likely that the club will choose to hold off on releasing the retained list until the manager’s circumstances have been rectified. It is anticipated, meanwhile, that Sawyers and Ojo will leave the capital of Wales this summer.
Sawyers is well-liked by everyone at the club, and the young players making their way into the starting lineup have benefited greatly from his influence. Ojo’s final season on loan with Belgium’s relegation-fighting KV Kortrijk has not been easy.
June 2022 saw Rohan Luthra sign a two-year contract extension; however, since then, he has only made one first-team appearance for the squad, coming on as a substitute against Preston North End. The loan decision that put Cardiff within the Welsh FA’s jurisdiction also prevented him from being signed by any clubs during the previous campaign, even though several non-league teams were interested in his talents.
Although Luthra’s talent as a custodian is recognised by the club, it is also acknowledged that the 22-year-old has to start playing frequently.
Kieron Evans’ future doesn’t seem to be entirely settled elsewhere. The former Wales youth international scored in the FA Trophy penalty shootout at Wembley to cap off a stellar second half of the season for Gateshead. Discussions over the winger’s next course of action are still ongoing.
The resolution of Erol Bulut’s dilemma will make everything lot clearer. Bulut has currently received an offer, but it hasn’t been accepted yet. It is understood, meanwhile, that additional communication has occurred this week, which insiders hope is a good indication and may indicate that specifics are being worked out. As others have said, his departure would probably have been publicised by now if there was really no chance.
However, we remain pending further developments and confirmation, in one form or another, before committing to the summer and upcoming season’s plans.
Harris, heading to Wembley: It was difficult to leave Cardiff
Mark Harris, who is preparing to go to Wembley with three other former Bluebirds to play Oxford United, has acknowledged that leaving Cardiff was a “tough decision.”
When he plays Bolton Wanderers at Wembley in the League One play-off final, the Wales international, who has scored 19 goals for the U’s this season, hopes for more.Get our Cardiff City newsletter by subscribing here.
With players like Joe Bennett, Ciaron Brown, Josh Murphy, and Harris, Oxford hopes to move up into Cardiff’s division the following season.
“We are four people. so maybe this coming weekend we can finish the job and move back up into the Championship,” Harris remarked. Reaching their former status is a significant achievement for these people.
“I’ve mentioned it numerous times: leaving Cardiff was not an easy choice. Since I was five years old, I had visited, and I had a great time. But eventually, I had to choose what was best for me, and at the time, I believed Oxford to be that choice.
I’ve been participating in a lot of football, so maybe I can assist Oxford advance into the Championship and return to my previous level. It doesn’t get any better than me scoring my 20th goal of the season at Wembley.”
In limbo: former defenders
Cardiff’s former left-sided defenders Greg Cunningham and Jonathan Panzo are currently out of action.
According to Sport Witness, Panzo, who had a lacklustre loan at the beginning of the previous campaign before being shipped to Standard Liege, has been returned to Nottingham Forest since the Belgian team decided not to exercise their option to purchase him.
